The Benefits Of Using LED Lighting For Your Home
The Benefits Of Using LED Lighting For Your HomeLight Emitting Diodes, or LED lights in short, is the newest alternative lighting source you can get today. This recent invention has revolutionized lighting by changing the way we produce light. As opposed to the traditional method of producing light through heat, LEDs create light by means of a process called electroluminescence.
However, the technology behind LED has made it more pricey than most sources. In fact, when compared with candles, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, LED light bulbs cost significantly more. But in spite of being more pricey than other lighting options, the many advantages of it provide enough reasons for consumers to try it out especially at home.
1) Lower Energy Consumption
LED light bulbs do not require much energy to produce light. They produce light in a process called electroluminescence instead of converting electrical energy into heat (like in the case of candles or incandescent bulbs). Simply put, it changes the state of an electron to cause it glow. This method eradicates, or at least significantly reduces, the quantity of energy wasted when producing light. Also, since the structure and volume is so much less than that of ordinary bulbs, less wattage is needed to produce the same amount of brightness.
2) More Lifespan
Compared to other lighting options, LED light bulbs usually last longer from around 25,000 to 50,000 hours depending on temperature and current settings. Some LED light bulbs even take 100,000 hours before complete failure is achieved. This is because LED lighting experience very little wear and tear unlike other lighting sources. They do not have any shortening wicks, burning filaments, or consumable vapors.
Fluorescent bulbs are claimed to last only for 10,000 to 15,000 hours.
3) Smaller in size
Since the mechanism behind LED depends solely on the dimension of the semiconductor chip, there is no need for voluminous confinements. The smaller the chip is, the smaller the LED light produced. This, however, does not necessarily translate to luminous intensity. It does not mean that simply because LED light bulbs are small, they are automatically dimmer than lights produced by other sources.
On The Contrary, LED lighting, can sometimes be brighter than other sources of light.
4) Toughness
Because there are in essence no moving parts in LED light bulbs, they are more resilient to shocks and vibrations. Additionally, because their structure has gotten rid of the need for glass (and other fragile materials), they are usually more robust and tougher than bulbs, thereby making it the most durable source of lighting.
5) Faster switching
When it comes to fluorescent and incandescent bulbs, light is produced as a result of superheating a medium. This is different for LED lighting. The moment electricity flows through the chip, electroluminescence almost immediately happens. This enables LED light bulbs to be turned on and off faster than other sources of light. In fact, it can achieve full brightness in a matter of microseconds.
6) No side effects
LED lamps do not contain Mercury vapor unlike fluorescent lamps. They are hence safer to throw away and less toxic than normal fluorescent bulbs
The above are several of the great advantages of using LED lighting in your home.
